One of the most precious church treasures of the world
With more than 650 objects the Halberstadt Cathedral Treasury is considered one of the largest examples of medieval treasures worldwide. Magnificent liturgical vestments, fine cast bronzes, gold artefacts, sculptures and altarpieces attest to the masterful art of the Middle-Ages. World famous are the masterpieces of textile art, to which the Abraham Angel Carpet dating from around 1150 belongs. Some 300 items from the church treasury can be viewed in a new permanent exhibition within the historical rooms of the cathedral cloister. Some of the highlights that can be seen are the precious works of art in gold and ivory; elaborate examples of intarsia and rock crystal art.
